Muriel "Pearl" Hyson

Hyson, Muriel “Pearl”, Truro – 90. It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Muriel “Pearl” Hyson January 7, 2017 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Mom was born in Middleboro, Cumberland County on May 28, 1926 to Lester and Blanche (Henderson) Murray. She graduated from the Nova Scotia Provincial Normal College and began her teaching career in Joggins. She went on to teach at various schools in Cumberland County including Wentworth and Lower Wentworth. In 1954 she moved with her husband, Bernard, to Halifax where she worked for Canada Post for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Truro and until her health prevented her from doing so was an active member of Grace Archibald WMS; Group 5 and June Allen WMS. She was a lifetime member of the Canadian Baptist Missionary Society. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Bernard; sister, Dorothy Moore; brothers Alonza “Lonnie” Murray, Laurie Murray, and sister, Joyce. Nothing was more important to Mom than her family who she loved with all her heart and she looked forward to every visit and moment she spent with them. Nothing would put a smile on her face any quicker than to see one of her family walk through the door for a visit. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Stephen) King, Elmsdale, Bernadine, Truro; son, Brian (Cheryl), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa), Adam (Laura), Susan (Randy), Melissa (Reid) and Samantha (Liam); five great-grandchildren and her sister, Verna (Darrell) McNutt, Truro as well as many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed quilting and would spend countless hours making these works of art. Mom always looked forward to summer and up until a few years ago enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine working in her gardens. She also enjoyed doing crosswords and until her eyesight deteriorated read her Bible faithfully every day. Thank you to Dr. Bower for his home visits and also to Fran. Special thanks to Ron Ruse keeping the driveway cleared during the snowstorm to make it easier for the paramedics. A very special thank you to Mom’s song bird, Nancy, who always brought a smile to her face and brightened her day. Also to Lana, her angel, your caring and compassion also made Mom’s life brighter. You were two of God’s blessings in her life. A kind and caring person Mom always put others before herself so a donation to Colchester Food Bank or a charity of your choice that helps the less fortunate would make Mom happy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Ron Ruse officiating. Reception and a time of visitation to follow. Spring Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Milford. Live webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58 pm (Atlantic Time) and is available with online condolences at www.ColchesterCommunity.com

God now has a beautiful flower in his garden. Mom, it breaks our hearts to let you go but we know you’re happy in Heaven and you now get to visit every day with the ones you love who went before you.
