Over 44 years ago an amazing man came into our lives, Norman Keeping and made it so much richer by marrying the love of his life Eileen and raising seven children. Today our circle was broken. January 11, 2017. Norm passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness with COPD at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in English Harbor West, Newfoundland on February 21, to the late Allen and Eliza Keeping. Norm is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, Bonnie (Roddie), Ann (Bill), Wendy (Ken), Jimmy (Kerry), Paul, Sandy (Debbie), Jason (Kathleen); grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Heather, Jeremy, Jessica, Vickie (Bobby), Mandy (Sandy), Darren, Bo, Alex (Sandra), Cameron, Steven, Shawn (Amanda), Jordan (Tracy), Brandon (Katie), Kelly (Sean), Amber (Jon), Jameson and Jackson; great grandchildren, Bentley, Brea, Daxton, Jillian, James, Colten, Emerson, Georgia, Iona, Sophia, Merissa and Jordynn; sister, Georgina; brothers, Clyde (Kathleen), Cyril (Margie), Brian (Mildred); brother-in-law, Burg Penny; special aunt, Marie and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ettie (Peter) Kendall; brothers, Bill (Lucy) and Allan; sister-in-law, Ann; mother and father-in-law, John and Bertha MacDonald; brother-in-law, Charles (Laura); sisters-in-law, Annie Mae (John), Jemima (John), Alice, Bunny, and Mary. Norm loved the sea where he worked until his retirement from McKeil Marine in 2012. Norm was a member of the Salvation Army since 1978. He was also well known in the community for his involvement in Minor Hockey, Sydney Mines skate board park, lifetime member of the Orange Lodge, Boularderie Mammowarriors, Boy Scout Canada and various organizations that he supported. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held Friday, January 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a funeral service on Saturday, January 14 at 1 p.m. both from Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave, Sydney Mines, Captain Corey Vincent will officiate. A light lunch will follow the service. Donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
