With heartfelt sadness, we must inform you that Gary Wayne Graves, age 67, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, peacefully at home, Noel Shore, Hants County, with family and friends at his side. Born on December 31, 1948, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gary was the son of the late Alfred and Adell (Burgess) Graves of Kentville, and his step father, Parker Schofield. Gary loved and called the Annapolis Valley and the Noel Shore home, although his career took him on many adventures around the world. Gary’s love, passion and creativity for food led to many interesting careers from western Canada, the Arctic, and Bangladesh along with many stops in between. All the while, Gary was honing his skills to fulfill his life dream to come home and build a future here in Nova Scotia. During his life Gary’s interests were diverse and included president Acadia Students' Union, president Horton High School, Horton High School Band, member of the West Novies Band, creating the First Original Gaspereau River Tubing Festival, Pastor with the United Baptist Churches, Gaspereau Adventure Playground, Rotundus Café, and an extensive career with the VON Colchester East Hants District. Gary is survived by his wife and best friend, Jacklyn Parker; siblings, Wanda Paquin (Terry), London, Ontario; Randy (Kathy) Schofield, Wolfville; Dena (Wade) Bowerman, Red Deer, Alberta; Sandy Carpenter (Ben), Nanaimo, British Columbia; and James Graves, Wolfville; sister-in-law, Karen Graves, Halifax; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Alfred Warren Graves and Adell Marie (Burgess) Graves-Schofield; his stepfather, Parker Schofield; he was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Marlene Parker and a brother, Terry Graves. Special thank you to Dr. Barbara O’Neil, Arthur Belanger, Dawn Ross and the palliative care team. Thank you for the loving care of his sisters–in-law and nieces, also to Nancy Pick and our Noel Shore family. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2218, 194 King Street, Windsor, B0N 2T0. A celebration of life will be held 2 - 4 pm Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Brooklyn Civic Centre, 995 Highway 215, Brooklyn, Hants County. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kennetcook-Noel Branch 166, Royal Canadian Legion, 8706 Highway 354, R.R.2 Kennetcook, NS, B0N 1P0; the Wolfville Branch 074, Royal Canadian Legion, 310 Main Street, Wolfville, NS, B4P 1C4 or to a charity of one’s choice.
