Lillian Carrol Francis (Pye) "Nan" of Windsor, NS, born November 23, 1946 in Sydney, NS passed away January 11, 2017 in Angus Ont. while visiting her daughter and grandchildren. Carrol was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, a dutiful daughter, a fierce friend and an honourary Nan to many. Her time with us is not measured in wealth but in richness! Carrol loved life and actively lived it on her terms. Born in Sydney, in a time of segregation and social/economic injustice, she faced personal challenges to break social barriers and colourlines. In the 60's she was active with the Black Panthers, participated in sit-ins and social protests. She worked hard since the age of 12 years as the "help" for affluent families. She encouraged her 3 children to become educated and be their personal bests. In the height of the Canadian Civil Rights movement she worked in and outside the home to contribute to the lives of her children, parents and community; often requiring her to be away from those she loved for extended times. She made great personal sacrifices for those she loved. Carrol was an accomplished cook, taught her children at her knee and fed many; from the military ranks at various kitchens including the Royal Military College, she cooked and served, cleaned houses, tended bar, watched children and sold her wonderful breads and baked goods. She was generous to a fault, had a big heart and a listening ear. She had a contagious personality, enjoyed a good meal, the company of her friends and family, the casino, watching movies and travel. She shared her time between her children and theIr families in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. She loved Montego Bay, Jamaica and had many dear and time-honoured friends on the island. Carrol is predeceased by her parents, Clara Pearl Pye (Foote/Inkpen) of Burrin NFLD, Lewis Aubrey Pye of Ecum Secum Bridge NS, Herbert Desmond Sr of GlaceBay NS; son, Vincent Lewis Wells; granddaughter, Latisha Wells- Morton of BC and her former husband, Bruce Harrison of Kingston Ont.
