HUSKINS - Helen M., 93, of Summerville Centre, Queens County, passed away quietly at home on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Born in Camperdown, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Lottie (Croft) Sarty. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a heart of gold. Her most cherished memories were those of times spent around the dinner table with a great meal she prepared, surrounded by her family. When Helen wasn’t busy caring for the family and tending to the home, she assisted her husband Winston doing bookkeeping and paper work for the family construction and lobster fishing businesses. She was never afraid of getting her hands dirty and proved that when she helped fiberglass the fishing boat, Helen M. Helen loved to sew and was a very skilled seamstress. She could make just about anything; quilts, clothing, dresses. Helen shared her sewing skills with many others over the years by teaching night classes at the Port Mouton School. Helen loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers and enjoyed many hours in her gardens over the years. Helen was a generous supporter of charities both local and worldwide. In her younger years, she also canvasses for numerous charities. She was an active member of the Summerville Christian Church holding numerous positions on the church board and committees. She particularly enjoyed the time spent with the Sunday School classes and the Youth Groups. Helen was an Elder Emeritus of the church at the time of her passing. Helen is survived by her son John (Mary) of St. Albert, AB, daughter Cathy (Peter Healey) of Bloomfield, NB, son Kevin (Jennifer Hartsgrove) of Summerville Centre. Grandchildren Mark Huskins, Ian (Lisa) Huskins, Kimberley (Craig) Hupman, Derek Huskins (Rachel Dyer), Shane Fralic (Joan O’Brien) Justin Fralic, Chelsea MacKenzie (Shae-Lynn) Michael Crabbe; Great grandchildren Brittany Hupman, Brooklyn and Shane Fralic; Sister Elizabeth Rafuse of Middlewood. Helen was predeceased by her husband Winston, son Gary and daughter in law Jackie, grandson Ryan Huskins, sisters Josephine Lacey, Audrey Stewart, Marion Silver Nellie Rafuse and brother Clyde Sarty. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. NS. Funeral service will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Summerville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ with Reverend Russell Prime officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Port Mouton. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Summerville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ or to a charity of your choice.
