SURETTE, Irene Marie – It is with broken hearts that we regret to announce that Irene Marie Surette, age 77, of Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 15 with her loving family by her side. Born in Quinan, Yarmouth Co., on February 12, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Theophile and Marie (Frotten) Muise. Irene was a loving wife, the greatest mother and she cherished her grandsons. Not having children of her own until she was 40, she was considered a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. She was devoted to her faith and was very involved in her community. Irene did not hesitate to go out of her way to help others and she always placed the well-being of others above her own. Family was always her highest priority. She loved spending time playing cards with her friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, kind heart, strength and love for her family and friends. Irene is survived by her son, Edmund (Denise) Surette; two grandsons, Gavin and Owen Surette, of Middle Sackville; a son-like nephew Peter Muise, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau; brother, Elmer (Bev) of Sydney; sisters, Madeline Vacon, Marjorie (Fred) Muise, both of Yarmouth, Joanne (Frank) Pretty of Kelligrews, NL and many nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Edmund Surette; brothers, Stanley, Walter, and George; sisters, Mabel Walsh, Florence Muise, and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation took place from 7-9 Wednesday evening with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 19 from Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
