Peacefully at the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Friday, January 19, 2017, with his loving family by his side of Alfred John Gallant of the Maplewood Manor, Alberton and formerly of Tignish, aged 80 years. Born at Tignish, on January 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Peter J. and Mary Adeline (nee Corrigan) Gallant. Beloved husband to Stella (nee Arsenault) Gallant and loving father to, Rose Mary Gallant of Summerside, Bernice (Thane) Thomson of Long Creek, PE, Russ (Annie) Gallant of Ottawa, Kim (Danny) Young of Long Creek. Step father to Arlene Gallant (Malcolm) McAlduff of Palmer Road, Linda (Bruce) Jones of Alberton, Willard (Tammy) Gallant of Ascension. Dear grandfather to Scott Thomson of Yellowknife, Matt Thomson of Cornwall, Jordan Richardson of Ottawa, Amy Wladyko of Edmonton, Andrew Gallant of Edmonton. Step grandfather to Jennifer (Chad) Millar, Tyler and Sara O' Rourke, Jarrett (Brittany) O' Rourke, Mariah, Lucas and Paige Gallant, Tanner (Brittany) Gallant, Tasha (Darren) Ashley, Tanya (Sheldon) Hackett. He is also survived by a special neice, Mary Rae Lambert. He is also survived by siblings, Fran Morehouse, Saint John, Marion (Mike) Brooks, Sussex, Thelma (late Bert Costain), Moncton, Theresa (late Bobby) Arsenault, Tignish, Dorothy (Norman) LeBlanc, Sidney, Ed Gallant, Tignish, Judy (Sonny) McInnis, Tignish. He was predeceased by siblings, Reggie, Rita (late Ray) Green, Carmie (late Ryan) Murphy, Irene (late Joe) MacLean. He was also predeceased by stepson Lambert Gallant and step granddaughter Valerie Jones. He will be sadly missed by his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass Monday afternoon, from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Brendon Gallant, celebrant. Interment later in the church cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorials to the Maplewood Manor Equipment Fund or the Tignish Fire Department would be gratefully appreciated.
