Passed on: January 13th, 2017

Jacob R. (Jake) Hildebrandt, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, January 13, 2017 at The Meadows in Swift Current. Jake was born on October 10, 1936 on the farm near Wymark to Peter and Elizabeth Hildebrandt. He attended Montford School. Jake married Elizabeth (Betty) Wiens, the love of his life, on July 23, 1965. It was rare to see mom and dad go anywhere in Swift Current where they were not holding hands. Together they built their family farm along with their three children, Randy, Gary and Loreena. Jake loved the farm and was a farmer at heart. Even this last year, when his health was failing, he called his boys many times a day asking about what was happening on the farm. Any report of trouble would result in a follow up call later on to check if the problem had been resolved. He was very proud of his sons and what they did to build the farm. Jake’s six grandchildren, Paul, EmmaJane, Heather, April, Elise and Brooke brought great pride and joy. Jake enjoyed watching and playing with his grandchildren and bought many farm toys, Lego sets, dolls, tea sets and other fun things for the kids to play with. He took them outside and they washed vehicles, fed the animals and enjoyed tractor rides both in the yard and to the field. Dad loved to eat, and drink coffee. He wasn’t fussy and enjoyed anything mom made and he always raved about Loreena’s baking. Jake liked to visit with anyone he met, be it on the field, at church, in the mall, or, in his last years, at dialysis, The Meadows and in the hospital. Jake always knew all the nurses’ names in the hospital and loved to sit at the counter at The Meadows and visit with the care aides and other residents, and give the care aides “helpful” advice on how to cook supper. The last three years were hard on Jake as he needed to undergo kidney dialysis three times a week. He found that difficult and tiring, but rarely complained. On April 4, 2016, Jake fell and broke his hip and was hospitalized for about three months and subsequently went to the Swift Current Care Centre and then to The Meadows on August 7. Jake always wished that he could walk again, and more than anything, wished he could go home to the farm to mow the grass, sadly that wish was never to be fulfilled. On Friday, January 13, 2017 he passed away peacefully at The Meadows and his suffering is now finally over and he is Home. Jake is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Betty; his son Randy (Sheila) and their three children, Paul, Heather and Brooke; his son Gary (Teresa) and their three children, EmmaJane (Josh) Grimm, April and Elise; and his daughter Loreena (David) Froese. He is also survived by his siblings, Helen Wieler, John (Joyce), Justina (George) Antal and Isaac; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tiena Hildebrandt, Mary (Hildebrandt) Martens, Fred Bennett, John & Carol Wiens and Norm & Helen Osback; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his parents, Peter & Elizabeth; his siblings, Eva, Peter, Henry, Mary and Elizabeth; his brothers-in-law, Bill Wieler and Frank Wieler; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Tina Wiens; and by his nephews, Edwin Wieler, Ronald Wieler and Vernon Hildebrandt. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 2:00pm from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Dwayne Easton officiating. Special music was brought by granddaughters EmmaJane Grimm, Heather, April, and Elise Hildebrandt who sang “Photograph” and “It is Well,” and by Pastor Dwayne & Rhonda Easton who sang “My Savior First of All.” Tributes were given by Gary Hildebrandt at the prayer service and at the Funeral Service by Pastor Dwayne Easton on behalf of Pastor Alvin Buhler, Loreena Froese, Paul Hildebrandt, and Randy Hildebrandt. A photo presentation was also given. The ushers in the church were Gordon Peters, Brent Nelson, Lawrence Newburgh, and Dale Friesen. The Private Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Paul Hildebrandt, Josh Grimm, Ken Wiens, Myron Hildebrandt, Harold Langendoen, and Ronald Wieler serving as Pallbearers, EmmaJane Grimm, Heather Hildebrandt, April Hildebrandt, Elise Hildebrandt, and Brooke Hildebrandt served as Honorary Pallbearers. In memory of Jake Hildebrandt, donations made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation for Swift Current Renal Dialysis Unit would be appreciated by the family.
