Myrtle Audrey  Miller

The death of Myrtle Audrey Miller, 89, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Born January 18, 1928 in River Hebert, Audrey was a daughter of the late Fred and Serena (Lennox) Wilson.
Audrey started teaching after graduation from grade 11. She completed grade 12 before getting her teacher's certificate. She proceeded to teach in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia before heading on an adventure in the West. She acquired a position in a Danish community where she lived in the teacherage. In the community, it was common for teachers to be invited to homes of the student's families and that was where she met the soon to be love of her life, Carl Miller. They eloped in 1955 to Calgary. In 1967, the family returned to Nova Scotia where she would teach in several schools over the years and finish her career teaching in the Springhill Correctional Facility; a job she always proclaimed to be the best of them all.
Audrey was very creative in quilting, cross stitch and needlepoint. She was an avid gardener. Audrey and Carl enjoyed traveling in their later years, and at one point drove to the furthermost tip of Newfoundland, and the following year completed a tour across Canada.
Audrey will be sadly missed by her children, Kier (Joan), Sussex Corner, NB, Serena (Gary) Galloway, Loveland, CO and Shane, Lethbridge, AB; five grandchildren, Amy (Stephen), Tina, Jayme (Katie), Tristan and Kelsey; two brothers, Dara (Lois) Wilson and Dave (Dayle) Wilson; a sister-in-law, Bon Wilson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carl, and her brothers Jim and Bill.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) from where family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 pm. Audrey will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the River Hebert Cemetery in the Spring. The Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating.
Donations in memory of Audrey may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
