Alexander A. Gorkoff of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on February 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Alex was born August 29, 1927 in Kamsack. He grew up on the family farm. There he completed his elementary and secondary education. Alex attended Teachers College in Saskatoon. After nearly 5 years of teaching in rural Saskatchewan, he returned to the University of Saskatchewan receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He also earned a certificate in Business Administration from the University of Regina. Alex was employed with the provincial government before becoming an instructor at the newly established Saskatchewan Technical Institute in 1959 with the Civil Engineering Technology Program. He was appointed Department Head in 1964 where he played a vital role in establishing the current Civil Engineering Technology Program until his retirement in 1987. Alex was a registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan. He was an active member of several Engineering Societies. Alex had a love for his family, his books, geology and a quest for lifelong learning. His passions included camping, square dancing, travelling and his lifelong companion and wife of 58 years, Reta “Terry”. He is predeceased by his parents Alex and Mary Gorkoff, one sister, two brothers and son-in-law Neil. Alex will be sadly missed by his wife Terry; children Cheryl (John) Rennick, Michael (Suzi) Gorkoff, Carla Meckelborg; grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Sarah, Kristin, Alex, Ana and Nick; sister Judy Wells; brother Paul Gorkoff as well as nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 1064 Third Avenue NW, on Monday February 6, 2017 at 11:00AM. Presiding Celebrant will be Father Rick Krofeck. Prayers will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, Sunday February 5, 2017 at 7:00PM. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing memorial donation may be directed to the Alzheimer Association or Charity of Choice. In living memory of Alex, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
