Roy H. Larsen age 80 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan died suddenly on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

He was born on May 3, 1936 on his grandmother’s farm in the Alida, Saskatchewan district where he attended Arborvitae School. He left home at the early age of fourteen and with his cousins worked at coal mines in British Columbia. He worked at a smelter in Kitimat, B.C. before moving to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where his parents were now living. While at Moose Jaw he worked at a lumber yard, Patterson Motors and the Union Hospital. Roy apprenticed with Caribou Sheet Metal and Plumbing in Moose Jaw and received his plumbing and gas fitting certificate through technical school in Saskatoon. He married Nola Scott on August 12, 1961 at Zion United Church in Moose Jaw. Roy began working for TransCanada Pipeline at Herbert, Saskatchewan in 1970 and then transferred with TransCanada to Shaunavon in 1980. Roy retired in 1999. He loved fishing and hunting. He coached baseball and hockey. His hobbies included his enjoyment of Bee Keeping, gardening, coin and stamp collecting, wood working and his greenhouse.

He was predeceased by his father Henry Larsen on January 15, 1978, his mother Grace Larsen (nee Steffenson) on April 10, 1978, his mother and father-in-law Merle and Ernie Scott, sister-in-law Marg Larsen and brother-in-law Richard Scott.

He is survived by his wife Nola, son Byron Larsen (Ivy), granddaughter Melissa Butcher (Beau) and great grandchildren Ethan, Andrea and Cameron all of Lacombe, Alberta; son Scott Larsen (Holly) and grandson Tanner of Medicine Hat, Alberta; daughter Pattie Steen (Gordie) of Shaunavon and grandsons Shaye and Brett; brother Erik Larsen of Saskatoon and sister Ellen Hodel of Swift Current and brothers and sisters-in-law Dale Scott (Marion) of Edmonton, Gary Scott (Wendy) of Medicine Hat, Ken Scott (Nora) of Regina and Dennis Scott (Debbie) of Moose Jaw as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held from Christ the King R. C. Church in Shaunavon on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. Urn bearer was Chris Stad and honorary bearers were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tributes were presented by Sharon Nelson and Marg Dyck. Inurnment of his cremated remains took place at St. Mary’s R. C. Cemetery at Shaunavon. Binkley’s Funeral Service (www.Binkleys.com) of Shaunavon was in charge of the arrangements.
