Katharina Deringer
With a circle of family around her bed, her room was filled with incredible love as Kay Deringer peacefully passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, at 92 years of age. Katharina Deringer (nee Wagman), was born April 5, 1924 on the family farm near Mendham, SK. She attended the local country school until she completed her studies. She worked on the family homestead with her five siblings doing what was required in the horse and wagon era. Kay worked at the Glass Foundry in Medicine Hat for a period prior to moving to the Billimun area to give Adam and sister Vera a hand during the time of Vera's first pregnancy. During this period she meet Clem, her future husband and they were married in 1947. During their farming years, three children were raised. Kay was dedicated to family, Church and community. She was known for her culinary skills, large gardens with beautiful flowers and was a devoted community and church volunteer. Clem and Kay retired to Mankota in 1977 and enjoyed their retirement gardening, playing cards, bowling, going to bingo, visiting family and traveling. Kay entered the Prairie View Health Centre in 2007, and continued her love of visiting friends, playing bingo and doing puzzles. Kay had the beautiful soul of a Mother. The heart and breath of our family, she will be forever missed, but not forgotten. We can find comfort in knowing she will be joining her beloved husband and our father, Clem. Her virtues, spirit, and love will never be gone and will be passed on to her loved ones. Kay is survived by her daughter Eileen (Kim), sons Glen (Nicole) and Neil and his sons Jeff, Brad (Sherry), and great-granddaughter Olivia. Also mourning is her sister Rose Schmitt, extended family and many nieces and nephews. Kay was also predeceased by her parents Balzar and Melvina Wagman, brothers Ray and Andy, her sisters Vera Deringer and Florence Bitz. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Albert’s Roman Catholic Church, Mankota, SK on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. Pallbearers were David Wagman, Andy Wagman, Bob Deringer, Gabe Deringer, Darcy Zerr and Craig Selensky. Interment followed at Mankota Cemetery. Thank you for the loving care given by all the staff at Prairie View Health Centre, we could not thank you enough. A bench will be erected in “Kay’s” name at the Health Centre.
