Emma Gertrude Murphy (nee Myles)

Passed on: February 13th, 2017

Emma Gertrude Murphy (nee Myles) of Mount Arlington Heights passed peacefully away, surrounded by her loving family, on February 13, 2017 at the Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia. Predeceased by her husband Leo in 2002. Leaving to mourn her eleven children, eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren along with a large circle of extended family and friends. Emma was born and raised in Frenchman's Cove, Fortune Bay to parents Philip Myles and Gertrude Walsh. She married Leo Murphy of Crawley's Island in 1953 and, together, they raised eleven children. Our mother, Emma, was an extremely loving and kind person who instilled strong values in her children. She loved to laugh, joke and dance and enjoyed being closely involved in her children's lives. Those who knew our mother can attest to her amazing compassion and loving nature. She spent the majority of her life making sacrifices for her children and will be sorely missed by them. She leaves a void in all of our lives that will never be filled. The family would like to thank all of the medical and support staff of the Lions Manor and Placentia Health Centre for their kind, caring and compassionate care of our mother. A special thanks to Dr. Birender Mangat for his exemplary care of our mother over the past number of years; he was always able to make her smile! Resting at Maher's Funeral Home in Placentia; visitation will be from 7 - 9 pm Monday evening; 2 - 5 pm and 7 - 9 pm on Tuesday. Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 15th at 11 am from St. Anne's Church in Dunville and interment will be at Father Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery in Southeast Placentia.
