With broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Stephen Alexander (Pender) MacAdam, age 58, on Monday, February 13, 2017.
Stephen was born May 20, 1958 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and passed away surrounded by his loving family at the An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a courageous 10 month battle with cancer.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 31 years, Katherine (MacLeod) MacAdam; his cherished sons, Matthew (Kaleigh) MacAdam, Grant MacAdam and the light of his life his beautiful granddaughter, Emmi MacAdam and granddog, Remington. Stephen is survived by his siblings, Michael (Ann) MacAdam, Mira; sister, Joan (Vince) Nickelo, Shubenacadie and sister, Delores (Aron Gabor) MacAdam Perth, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Sally (Donald) MacLeod, Glace Bay and Beth MacLeod, North Vancouver; nieces, Jaclyn (Scott) MacDonald, Laurel MacAdam, Laura (Nathan Giroux) Nickelo, Victoria Cowell and Sara Nickelo; nephews, Patrick MacAdam, Alex (Heidi) Nickelo, Geoff (Jasmine) Nickelo, Andrew MacAdam, John MacLeod and Daniel (Allison Toomey) MacLeod. Also survived by lifelong best friend, Barrie (Ethel) Campbell; step-father, Phonse Jessome and numerous cousins & friends. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Stephen F MacAdam and Evelyn (MacDonald) MacAdam-Jessome; in-laws, Donald G and Reta MacLeod; grandparents, Alex ( The Beveler) Blanche MacDonald and Roderick and Josie MacAdam. Stephen had a lifelong love of hockey and played in numerous rep teams growing up including the Glace Bay Junior Miners. He was a proud hockey coach to his sons and enjoyed the past few years playing as their teammate. Golf was another passion and he was a member of Lingan Golf and Country Club for several years.
Stephens work life included Sales with Sears in Glace Bay and New Waterford, Insurance sales with Blue Cross and Industrial Alliance, CBVRSB and ended his working career as a laborer with LIUNA local 92.
Visitation will be at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, on Friday, February 17, from 6-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, at St Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with the Rev Leo Boone officiating. The interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Cancer Unit or Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
