Lester John Ernst, 94 of North Sydney passed away peacefully on Feb.13 at Northside General Hospital. Lester was born and raised in Blockhouse NS, and after meeting his wife moved to Cape Breton making North Sydney his home for the past 63 years.
Lester will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his daughter Sandra (Todd Ingram); son George (Diane); granddaughter Sarah (Brandon Day); sister Jean Crossland, Mahone Bay many nieces and nephews and special niece Donna Ernst, Halifax.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife Amy Chislett, his parents Wilbert and Bessie Ernst; in-laws George and Mary Chislett, sister, Pearl Lockhead; brothers, Carl, Gordon, Murray, Thomas and Robert. Lester lived a long and full life and will be remembered by many as someone who was always working either at home or as a stevedore at CN Marine until his retirement. Lester lived a simple life, loved his many pets and always found room for one more. Lester’s second home was at the cabin in Margaree where he loved to spend time salmon fishing. While in Margaree he met many wonderful people, especially his friends Mike and Diane Lachowiez. For the most part, Lester lived life on his own terms, so in keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Lester’s remains have been cremated and will be buried with his wife at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Northside General Hospital Foundation or Palliative Care.
