Suddenly, on Monday, February 6, 2017, at his home in Regina, Keith Thompson, aged 77 years, passed away.
Keith was born in Moose Jaw, SK on May 8th, 1939 and attended Central Collegiate where he met his future wife Joan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and then the University of Manitoba to pursue a career in dentistry where he started a private practice and raised his family.
Keith served in the military reserves as a Captain with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles.
In the 90’s Keith sold his practice and went on to teach the next generation of dentists at the University of Manitoba, where he was Chief of Dentistry.
A lifelong football enthusiast Keith excelled as a player in high school and later with the Saskatoon Hilltops, winning the Canadian Junior Championship in 1958. Later while living in Winnipeg he would take up coaching football and also would go on to win two provincial championships with the Maples Vikings ’84 and the North Winnipeg Nomads in the 1990’s. Keith was also an assistant coach with the Maples Collegiate Marauders. After coaching, Keith was a volunteer for the Special Olympics.
Keith was a devoted husband to his wife Joan of 55 years, and father to his three children. He enjoyed visiting with friends who stopped by, or just quiet conversations on the phone with family. He was always up for a game of cards with his great nephews and nieces, and enjoyed hearing stories about what they were up to. Keith enjoyed watching TV and movies, reading books and cheering on his favorite team the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He followed the Hilltops on the radio, as well as the Toronto Blue Jays and the Winnipeg Jets.
Keith is survived by his three children; Rob Thompson, Margot (Michael) Henson, and Christian (Corinna) Thompson; sister Beverley (Robert) Searcy; brother Bryne (Verna) Thompson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Keith was predeceased by his parents Irvin and Jean (McKay) Thompson and his wife Joan (Olson) Thompson.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later Date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to the Special Olympics or a charity of your choice.
