Adele Safran passed away peacefully on February 22, 2017 in Calgary at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Colin Webster Innes and Elsie Innes. Adele grew up on Staten Island, NY and had three sisters: Barbara, Joanne and Coline. She graduated from Brooklyn's Pratt Institute with a degree in Illustration and Design in 1945. She married the artist Bernard Safran and had two daughters, Barbara and Elizabeth. She and her family moved to New Brunswick in 1973 and lived in a remote farmhouse near the community of Jolicure. She was a member of the Sackville Art Association, the Portrait Society of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Artists, and exhibited her work at Mount Allison University. She painted numerous works including commissioned portraits of children and pets. In 1985, she and Bernard moved to Riverview, NB. When Bernard passed away in 1995, she moved to Calgary to live with her daughter Elizabeth.
Adele is lovingly remembered by her daughters Barbara Safran de Niverville and Elizabeth (Betty) Malyon, her sons-in-law Peter de Niverville and John Malyon, her grandchildren Sarah and Abigail de Niverville and Serena and Rachel Malyon, and her sister-in-law Rhoda Newman.
A Remembrance Ceremony will be held in Calgary, Alberta at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of their choice.
