Audrey Elaine Rothney (nee Robertson) passed away February 17, 2017 in Abbotsford, British Columbia in her 98th year. She was born on December 15, 1919 in Port Mouton, Nova Scotia to Frank Aubrey Robertson and Lydia Edna MacKenzie. Audrey spent her early years in Port Mouton, graduating from the Shelburne High School at age 15. She attended Acadia University, graduated in 1940, and then completed a Dietetic Internship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. She worked as a hospital dietitian for a few years in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick before accepting a position at the Lachute High School in Lachute, Quebec to teach Home Economics. It was there she met George Linklater Rothney and they were married August 15, 1945 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Audrey and her husband lived in a number of towns in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. She was a devoted mother of three children and a generous volunteer in their church and community. Audrey and George retired in 1978 and moved to Abbotsford. They shared many fond memories of their years as snowbirds in Florida and Tucson, Arizona. Audrey was predeceased by George (1920-1912) her beloved husband of 67 years, and by Thomas (1947-2014) her cherished son. Audrey is survived by her daughters Linda (the late David Appleton, Andrew Kenyon) of Oakville, Ontario and Susan of Abbotsford; daughter-in-law Denise Rothney of Duncan, British Columbia; grandchildren James Rothney (Krista Slavinski) of Toronto, Ontario, Adrienne Rothney (Michael Haponiuk) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Jordan Appleton of Toronto, Ontario; and her three great-grandchildren Owen Rothney and Zachary and Joshua Haponiuk.
Cremation has occurred and a private memorial and interment will be held with the Rev. Dr. Hans Kouwenberg officiating. Audrey was a talented artist and leaves a treasure trove of beautiful, handcrafted creations for her family…lasting mementos by a special lady.
