Denise Elise Gillis

Passed on: February 25th, 2017

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Denise Gillis, 85, of London, Ont. and formerly of New Waterford on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Chelsey Park Long-Term Care Facility, London, Ont.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elise (Gerard) Porquet. Denise was a member of the former St. Michael's Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. Denise was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting (her table cloths and runners were evident throughout the house), fabric painting, gardening and of course cleaning. Most of all, she loved her girls and they loved her. They travelled the world together and on some journeys, backpacked throughout Europe, which in turn solidified their loving bond towards one another. She will truly be missed by all.
Surviving are daughters, Elise Rudderham, Red Deer, Alta., Linda (Wendy) Gillis - Davidson, Bracebridge, Ont., Brenda Gillis (Doug), London, Ont.; brothers, Charlie and Henry; sisters, Regina and Carmen; grandchildren, Megan, Noahh, Hugh, Krystal and Caitlyn and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hugh; one son, Hugh, in infancy; two brothers, Benny and Louie; one sister, Martha.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
