Myrna Barclay

Myrna Barclay

Barclay, Myrna Mae(O’Connor)- Jordan Falls, passed away peacefully in Roseway Hospital on March 1, 2017. Born in Jordan Falls on October 5, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Charles Rudolph and Jessie Mae(Fredericks) O’Connor. Myrna grew up in Jordan falls along with siblings Rudolph “Jim”(deceased) and Sherman (deceased) and Charles. Myrna was a teenager when World War 11 began and was ready to join the work force in the early 1940’s. Myrna began working in administration at the Naval Base in Sandy Point. There she met personnel from all over the country. After the war Myrna ventured to Halifax where she continued to work in administration at Sears. Whenever she travelled to Halifax with her children she would point out the offices in which she had been employed. Quite an adventure for a young lady from Jordan Falls in the 1940’s. Myrna married John Turner Barclay (deceased 1975) in 1947. Shortly after their marriage Myrna and John ventured to Ontario to work. Mom and Dad liked adventure. With three kids in tow they set off across Western Canada and Northern USA for a road trip. Mom and Dad travelled back and forth from Nova Scotia to Ontario from 1948 to 1960 and by 1960 three more children were added to the family. In the early 1960’s Mom and Dad built the Fina Garage in Jordan Falls and ran that business together for many years. They built their home in Jordan and moved into the house in 1963. Mom continued to live there until earlier this year. As well as her work at the garage she spent 17 years working with Canada Post, both acting Post Mistress and then permanent Post Mistress in Jordan Falls, retiring in 1977. Following retirement mom continued to travel. She enjoyed trips with daughters, Marilyn (deceased 1996), Myrna (deceased 2012), Jo-Ann, Shelley, granddaughter Tina and son Charles and she also travelled solo. Mom had the privilege of travelling to 20 countries and over the globe. Mom had great memories of the tours she enjoyed with the local Senior Tours. Travel may have been a great passion for mom but we do not think it would surpass the pleasure she derived from sitting at a table with a pack of cards and friends or family available to have a game or two.. or three.. or four.. or more! Mom was always up for an adventure. She continued tobogganing with her grandchildren into her mid 70’s, enjoyed her last coach trip when she was 90, and drove until her 91st. birthday. Mom was a life-long member of the Anglican Church and a long-time member of the IOOF, Rebecca Lodge. Mom wasn’t always chatty, but she was also observant and willing to listen. She was fun and met the challenges of raising 6 different personalities into adulthood.. for this we thank her, love her and miss her. Rest in peace Mom. Mom is survived by sons, Charles (Valerie); John (Janet); daughters, Jo-Ann (Brian); Shelley (John); 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great, great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Helen); many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, March 3 from 7-9 p.m. in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Jordan Falls with Rev. Doug Chard officiating.
