Nancy MacWilliam

MACWILLIAM, Nancy Joan

Nancy passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2017, in Dartmouth General Hospital, with her husband, Peter at her side.

Nancy was the daughter of Winston and Norma (Sears) Smith and was born in Sandy Point, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia.

Most of Nancy’s working career was spent with Capital Health after studying Medical Laboratory Technology at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology. She worked in several roles at the Capital Health District Authority, beginning in 1994, as a phlebotomist and Lab Assistant in Central Accessioning, as a Technologist in Blood Transfusion Services and, from 1999 onwards, as a Pathologist’ Assistant in Anatomical Pathology.

Nancy is sadly missed by everyone who knew her. Her work colleagues, who felt proud and lucky to have had her on their team, had great admiration for her due to her passion and dedication in her career and knew her as a kind, gentle, spirited and spiritual person who was loved by all.

Nancy enjoyed artwork, reading, canoeing and hiking with Peter and their friends. Nancy was a member of the Aeolian Singers for 12 years as well as a member of her church choir. She and Peter enjoyed travelling to the United Kingdom to visit with Peter’s family and to spend time in the Lake District in England. While in Europe she and Peter also enjoyed travelling to other European destinations such as Holland and France.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Winston and Norma and is survived by her loving husband, Peter; sisters, Pamela Smith (Ron), Karen Thomas (Paul); and nieces and nephews, Tammy (Chris), Mark, Jason (Trina), Joni; and extended family, Montgomery, Mackenzie and Alex.
