GLEN DAVID CHRISTIANSEN; February 13, 1941 - March 4, 2017. Glen David Christiansen (age 76) of Swift Current, SK passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital on March 4, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. Glen was born in Cabri, SK on February 13, 1941, the third of four sons born to Tom and Hilda (Misner) Christiansen. Glen was a very good student and an active child, participating in many sports with his favourites being hockey, baseball, and curling. At the age of 11, Glen contracted rheumatic fever which caused some heart damage that ended his playing days but he continued to enjoy watching sports right up to the time of his passing. Glen began working at a young age, starting with delivering groceries for Moffat's General Store in Cabri, and quickly developed a keen interest in business. After moving to Swift Current and taking a job with Sherwin Williams paint store, he married Mae Nephin (nee McCarthy) and they had two children together, Tom born in 1965 and Lee-Ann born in 1969, joining with Mae's son Dan from her first marriage. Glen quickly moved up the ladder in Sherwin-Williams Paints being named manager of the Swift Current store, moving to Winnipeg in 1971 and assuming the position of Sales Manager for Western Canada, and then on to the head office in Montreal in 1972 to become Branch Services Manager for Canada. Wanting to be closer to home, Glen took a position with Walter L. Brown Wallcoverings in 1976 and moved the family to Calgary where he set up the western office of the Toronto based company. Glen quickly expanded the territory setting up branches all the way to Vancouver. In 1977 the family moved to Maple Creek where Glen joined his brothers and managed their concrete business and established a retail paint and wallpaper store. Glen was able to bring the family home to Swift Current in 1979 when he purchased 50% of Decor Complete Ltd., then bought the rest of the company in 1985. Glen continued to own and operate his business up until 2014 when his son Tom and daughter Lee-Ann bought the business. Even though he no longer had an ownership stake, Glen continued working at the store right up until a couple of weeks prior to his passing. Glen loved Swift Current and was a very active member of the community with his involvement with many service groups and local organizations including the Lion's Club, the Elks Club, the Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Chamber of Commerce, the Frontier Days Board, the Home and Garden Trade Show, and serving three terms as a City Alderman. Glen was also a big supporter of minor sports and the local SPCA and was quick to donate too many other local, regional, provincial, and national charities. Though Glen's stay at the hospital was relatively short, the care he received from the staff on second west was outstanding. Special thanks to Dr. Bakare and Dr. Ghori for the extra effort to keep Glen comfortable and for taking the time to care for our family during this most difficult of times. We also want to thank the entire nursing and support staff for all the hard work they put in to care for Glen. We wish to make special mention of Ashton and Cassidy. Dad referred to you both as his A-Team and he always felt most at ease when you were on duty. Also special thanks to Dr. Terry Gordon for the years you spent as dad's trusted doctor and for coming to visit him in the hospital as a friend. Glen is survived by his loving wife Mae, his three children; Dan (Michelle) Nephin, Tom (Tara) Christiansen, and Lee-Ann Knelsen (Pat Luepke), as well as his grandchildren; Danny Nephin (fiancé Jennie May), Nikki-Jean Nephin (Chris Smid), Dalton Christiansen, Brody Knelsen, Madison Knelsen, Cody Luepke (Dakota), and Riley Johnson as well as great-grandchildren; Millicent Smid and Hunter Luepke. Glen is also survived by brothers Carl (Lil) Christiansen and Norm (Linda) Christiansen, sisters-in-law Jean (Al) Stolson, and Myrna Strom, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
