Marion Brown, 97, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2017, at Embassy Hall in Quispamsis, NB. Marion was born Nov 13, 1919 to parents Jessie Evelyn (Arthur) MacDonald and William James MacDonald in Sandy Bay, Nova Scotia. She attained her BA in English Literature and her B.Ed. at Acadia University and her MA and M.Ed. at Dalhousie University. She taught at educational institutions in Nova Scotia, Toronto, and Syracuse, NY before settling in Huntingdon, Quebec, where she taught at the Huntingdon Academy, and then at Chateauguay Regional High School (CVRHS) until her retirement in 1984. Marion and her husband, James Cecil Brown, were married August 14, 1950 and moved into the Brown family homestead in Huntingdon where they raised their two sons James and William. Marion was an enthusiastic student of her family heritage. She was a descendent of both Louis Payzant and Alexander McDonald, who were early settlers of Nova Scotia’s south shore in the 1700’s. She was devoted to her teaching career and was highly regarded by students, parents, and colleagues, and earned significant awards for her work. She was dedicated to her family. She and her husband, Cecil, spared no time or expense in ensuring that their sons were supported in every opportunity. Marion loved to entertain, and her Nova Scotian hospitality frequently brought together friends and family during her time in Huntingdon. Marion was an avid traveler, and visited England, France, Greece, Germany, Holland, Israel, Scotland, Belgium, Russia, Florida, Cuba, Bermuda. She especially enjoyed visiting the birthplaces of her favourite authors in England. She retired, after a 38-year career in teaching, and focused on her love of gardening at the large property in Huntingdon, became an avid bridge player, rekindled her interest in golf, and continued her exploration of Europe and the Mediterranean. Marion moved to Rothesay, NB in 2005 to be closer to her son James. She continued with, and never lost, her passion for bridge and literature. Marion is predeceased by her husband James Cecil Brown (1990) and her half-brother Douglas MacDonald. She is survived by her two sons, James (Helen Greene) and William, and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her keen intellect and wit, the many stories she told of her life, and her love of laughter. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) where visitation was held on Tuesday then followed by a private service. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Saint John SPCA or to the charity of the donor's choice; online condolences can be made at www.kennebecasisfh.com
