It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing away of our mother, Gloria Elizabeth Janet Laird (Kvello) on March 13, 2017 at her home in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan.
Gloria was born March 25, 1938 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to parents Ivan Dewey Kvello and Sarah Elizabeth Stafford. Her parents moved the family to the family farm at Leinan, Saskatchewan. Gloria went to school at Kilton Hill and finished her education in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Gloria met her future husband Donald Laird in Swift Current. They were married June 11, 1957 and soon after moved to a farm by Glenside, Saskatchewan. They had four children while on the farm, Pat, Laurie, Sheila, and Ward. In 1965 they moved to Shaunavon. Gloria stayed home with her children but cleaned houses and sold Avon to bring in extra money. Gloria was hired on at the Shaunavon Hospital where she worked part time in the kitchen, on the floors, and in the laundry. She worked part time until given a full time position in the kitchen where she worked her way up to head cook. She retired in 1999 and then stayed home to work on her gardening, crocheting and knitting. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed her friends at coffee groups too. Gloria enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. She was most efficient in the kitchen, and would cook up a feast when her family was coming for a visit. She always made a point to have everyone’s favorites available. She looked forward to visits with her family, loved her children and grandchildren immensely. Mom was a rock her family could always count on and she always did her best to support each of us. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Don on October 14, 2013, her daughter Pat on June 3, 2014, her parents and her two brothers Ed Kvello and Dennis Kvello as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by grandsons Jeff, great granddaughter Brittany and Jason (Pat’s sons); daughter Laurie, granddaughter Daria and grandson Devon (Leah); daughter Sheila, granddaughter Natasha (Montana); son Ward (Ginette), granddaughter Gabriella and grandson Zyden; brother-in-law Roy Laird (Marion) and sister-in-law Mabel Wall (Walter) as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon with Pastor Joy Frenette officiating. Her son Ward Laird presented the eulogy. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Laird, Jason Laird, Devon Stock, Leah Stock, Natasha Viscount and Montana Dempsey.
