GRANT MACLEAN

Born: June 4th, 1942

Passed in: GLACE BAY, Nova Scotia
Passed on: March 15th, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Grant E. MacLean. Grant passed away peacefully, at home on March 15th, 2017 with his family by his side.
He was born on June 4, 1942, eldest son of Grant Sr. and Christine (MacLeod) MacLean. He lived his entire life in Glace Bay, graduated from Morrison Glace Bay High, received his stationary engineering degree and was included in the original class of power engineers with Nova Scotia Power Corp to begin the operation of Lingan Generating Power Station. He was a member of IBEW local 1928. He retired from NSPC in 2005 after 27 years of service.
After retirement he busied himself with many projects and was “on call” 24/7 when there was a problem. Grant was an avid gardener and every spring the vegetable garden grew a few more feet, until it encompassed half the yard. He happily shared a bountiful supply of fresh vegetables with his neighbors and friends.
There was very little that he could not repair or mend back to life again and he really didn't know how to actually throw anything away. One of his many innovations was the Grantilator.
Grant was an avid member of Knox United Church, having served as a member of the session and property committee. It was at Knox he was christened in 1942 and at Knox where a celebration of his life will happen on Monday, March 20th.
Grant was a devoted grandfather who could be found cheering for his favorite hockey star at any of the arenas in the area and followed the teams for all off island tournaments. He maintained a very close relationship with his Glace Bay grandsons and saw them every single day.
Grant is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (Wilneff); sons, Allan (Jodie Charters) and Rodney (Tracey Lundrigan) of Halifax and favorite daughter, Suzanne (Donald MacQueen), Glace Bay; grandsons, Robert and Ian MacQueen, Glace Bay and Findlay and Spencer MacLean, Halifax. These boys became the very light of his life and pride of his heart, and he reminded them constantly just how proud he was of them. Also surviving is his special 'adopted' granddaughter,Megan Allison.
Surviving also are Grant's brothers, Allister and niece Allison; brother, Donald (Cheryl) and nephew, Mark (Micaela). Grant was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Chris MacLean as well as his sister-in-law and friend, Linda MacLean.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home on Sunday, March 19, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A celebration of Grant's life will be held at Knox United Church on Monday, March 20, at 2pm.
Family Flowers only... suggested memorials are Knox United Church and Glace Bay Food Bank.
