H. Peter Johnson

THORBURN – H. Peter Johnson, 82, Thorburn, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family by his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Jens and Thyra (Vestergaard) Johannesen.
He graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in the mid 1950’s. In 1964, he and his wife, Jean, relocated to Ontario where he was initially employed with the Canada Packers research farm in Maple. Following, Peter became employed in the food processing industry with Stokely van Camp, which later became Cobi Foods, serving as Director of Agriculture for many years. He and Jean returned to Pictou County in 1999, residing in Abercrombie for several years before moving to Thorburn.
Peter was an avid vegetable and flower gardener, possessing a truly “green thumb”. He gladly lent his expertise to the Thorburn Consolidated School garden program. Peter greatly enjoyed playing cards and board games. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs and curling. Peter was a patient and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jean (MacLellan); daughters, Kathy (David) Coupland, Bowmanville, Ont.; Kimberley Bush, New Glasgow; son, Dale (Dawn) Johnson, Bailieboro, Ont.; sisters; Ruth Johannesen, Ottawa, Ont.; Edie (Bill) Chisholm, Bedford; Elizabeth “Lil” Wilson, La Paz, Mexico; Beryl Watling, Buckhorn, Ont.; Mary Ann LeBlond, Wakefield, Que.; brothers; Anders (Carol) Johnson, Antigonish; Eric (Lois) Johnson, Ingleside, Ont.; Carl (Marion) Johnson, Abercrombie; grandchildren; Tyler, Logan, Conor (Emily), Shannon (Gig), Christopher (Whitney), Nicole, Lucas and Michael; great-grandchildren; Shayleigh and Brayden; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating.
Family flowers only.
Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Abercrombie Cemetery Fund.
