Muriel Baragar (nee Howey), age 87, of Ponteix, SK passed away on Wednesday, March 15 at the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix with her family at her side. Muriel was born on January 17, 1930 on the farm near Val Marie. She moved with her family to the Livelong district, then to Vancouver where she finished her schooling. She came back to the prairies to work for George and Mae Baragar where she met her future husband, Curtis. Curtis and Muriel were married on January 11, 1950 and farmed in the Wallard district. Muriel enjoyed gardening, bowling, curling and visiting with neighbors during those farming years. In 1975, Curtis and Muriel moved to Ponteix. Curtis continued to farm with his son Dennis, and Muriel worked at the Manor in Ponteix as cook for several years. Muriel moved to the Prairie View Manor in Swift Current in 2013 and enjoyed the opportunities it provided. In December of 2014, due to failing health, she moved back to Ponteix to the Foyer St. Joseph. Curtis and Muriel enjoyed bus trips to the USA and several trips to Reno. Muriel was a member of the Aneroid Royal Purple, Ponteix Legion and Aneroid 50+. She loved golfing, playing cards, quilting, and singing in the Trinity Gospel choir. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. She loved to laugh and always enjoyed a good joke, even if the joke was on her. She enjoyed bantering with the Foyer staff. Her greatest love was for her family and her grandchildren were a special delight. Some of her fondest memories are holidays in Hawaii and Florida with Curtis, Alaskan cruise in 2003 with Dennis and Betty, her 80th birthday party at the Cultural Center with all of her family members and all times spent with family. Muriel is survived by her son Dennis and his wife, Betty, daughters Shirley and her husband Jim Bedford, and Myrna Smith; grandchildren Karmen (Lyndon) Kyle, Dean Baragar, Shane (Lira) Utke, Tyler (Shawna) Utke, Logan (Jen) Utke, Courtney (Kevin) Kunz, Tyler (Cara) Bedford, Steven (Mellissa) Bedford and Stacey (Dylan) Smith; great grandchildren Layne, Reese and Tyson Kyle, Roland Tomter, Hunter and Carter Utke, Grayson and Skylar Utke, Reid and Avery Kunz, Callan Bedford, Kaeden, Quinn, Siena and Kai Bedford and Drake, Degan and Deklan Burton; sister-in-law Erika Howey and several nieces and nephews. Muriel was predeceased by her parents Olga and Hugh Howey, husband Curtis Baragar, son-in-law Glen Smith, brother Cecil Howey and sister Viola Johnson. The funeral service was held on March 20 at the Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church in Ponteix, SK with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. Organist was Betty Baragar and music was provided by the Trinity Gospel Choir. Pallbearers were Shane Utke, Logan Utke, Hunter Utke, Carter Utke, Dean Baragar and Karmen Kyle. The eulogist was Stacey Smith. Muriel was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cadillac, SK. She is in God's loving hands where there is no more pain or sorrow and is looking forward to a blessed reunion with her loved ones one day. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the Foyer staff for the exceptional, loving care they gave Muriel.
