Lucy Gwendolyn Bursey

Born: December 19th, 1926

Passed on: March 24th, 2017

With great sadness we announce the passing of Lucy Gwendolyn Bursey (nee Taylor), the beloved wife of William Hedley Bursey. She passed away peacefully on March 24, 2017. Gwen, as she was known by family and friends, was born in Port de Grave on December 19, 1926. She was predeceased by her father, Rev. Samuel Taylor and her mother, Margaret Minnie Taylor (nee Burry), who died when Gwen was a young girl. Gwen's infant sister, Ethel Winnifred Pearl Taylor, died in 1923 when Winnifred was just one week old. Flora Taylor (nee Bowering) later married Samuel and lovingly raised Gwen and her surviving sister, Marion Joyce Hillier. As a talented musician, for most of her adult life Gwen played various musical instruments at her church and taught music to many students, young and old. Gwen will be greatly missed by her dedicated husband Bill, her loving sister Joyce, Gwen's cherished in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and their loved ones, and her valued friends, including many in Corner Brook where the couple had lived for more than fifty years. Visitation with family and friends will be held at Zion Pentecostal Church in North West Brook, NL on Monday (March 27) at 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A service led by Pastor Stephen King will be held honoring Gwen at the church on Tuesday (March 28) at 2 PM. Interment will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery in North West Brook. The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at Lion's Manor in Placentia, the staff at Mountain View Retirement Home in Corner Brook and Gwen's health care professionals for the compassionate care and comfort provided in recent years. Thanks too to the caring staff at O'Mahoney Manor, where Gwen resided but for a short few days. Their support in her final days has been most appreciated. We find comfort in knowing that Gwen now is absent from her body but forever present with her Lord. Heaven is now blessed with her gentle and brilliant smile.
