MCDEVITT, Catherine "Cassie" Theresa - age 85 of Yarmouth, NS. We, the
family of Cassie McDevitt, are saddened to announce of her passing which
occurred on March 22, 2017 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on March 1, 1932 she was the youngest daughter to the
late Charles and Dorothy (Morrell) McDevitt. Cassie is survived by brother,
John (Carol) McDevitt, Barrie, ON; nieces and nephews; William Guinan,
Calgary; David Guinan, John Guinan, and Sandra Guinan, Truro; Dorothy
Guinan, St. Augustin, PQ and Susan Mayers, Barrie, ON; 15 grand nieces
and nephews; great grand-nephew and niece. Besides her parents, Cassie
was predeceased by brother, Lawrence, sisters Mary and Lillian, an infant
brother, and niece Anne Guinan. Cassie graduated from Yarmouth
Consolidated Memorial High School and was active on a number of
athletic teams. She was a former member of the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club. Cassie enjoyed a 34-year career at M T & T in Yarmouth,
spending six years in Kentville in various managerial positions. After
retirement Cassie worked at Elizabeth's Clothing, later the Shirley Shop
and at C. E. Dyke's Ltd. Cassie was a long-standing member of the
Yarmouth Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a dedicated worker at the gift
shop. She also volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil
Campaign and at Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics. Cassie was also a member of the Sebim Beach Properties Association.Cassie had a sharp
mind and a quick wit. She was feisty, independent and fun. She enjoyed
life and never complained. Donations may be made to the Yarmouth
Hospital Foundation, Renal Dialysis Unit or to the charity of your choice.
Graveside service will take place in Brooklyn Cemetery, Yarmouth
County this summer. Final details to be determined.
