Lorne Robert Daken

Lorne Robert Daken – 57, Truro, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Saturday morning, April 8, 2017, at home, Truro. Born in Springhill, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Marion Phyllis (Fear) Daken and Lorne Henry Daken. Lorne worked the majority of his career in the Flooring Industry starting with MacLean’s Flooring, then Reid's Flooring in New Glasgow before moving to Hallidays Flooring, Truro, as Store Manger until his illness a year and half ago forced him to retire. He also enjoyed camping, Cabot Trail journeys, fishing, NASCAR, whale watching, gardening, crime shows, country drives looking for bails eagles and deer.
Lorne is survived by his partner Christine Burns, Truro; only son Drew Daken and his mother Kirsten Snow, Trenton; daughters Stephanie Gould, Moncton; Miranda Malally, St. John; Lorna Trites, Truro. Sisters Sandra Rushton (Myles Stewart), Springhill; Cathy Burton (Harold), Amherst; brother Todd Daken (Candace Fraser) Springhill. Grandchildren Randi, J.J., Moncton and Jacob Robert, Truro. Special nieces and nephews Shannon Fear, Travis Rushton, Kendra Burton-Williams and Tamra Zadorozny. Along with his mother, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law Ivan Ruston, Springhill.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Lorne’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 11th, and funeral service 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 12th. The Reverend Lori Ramsey will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Spring internment will take place at a later date in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Lorne’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada. The family would like to thank the Truro Palliative Care team and the VON for the wonderful support and care during Lorne’s illness. He enjoyed their company and laughter.
