It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Effie Pentecost on Monday April 3, 2017 at the age of 61. Born in Sydney Mines on May 18, 1955 she was the daughter of the late Joseph Gardiner and Annabell Steele. Mom lived life to the fullest and spent as much time as possible in the company of her children and grandchildren. She spent the last 4 years with her best friend Joe and many sisters. This was the best and happiest days for her as she was home again where she loved so much. Effie will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She touched the lives of so many. Effie will be greatly and forever missed by her best friend and companion, Joe Walsh and children, Maggie (Rob) Neddow, David (Crystal) Pentecost, Chris Pentecost, Carrie Pentecost, Troy Pentecost; grandchildren, Chantelle, Desiree, Olivia, Alex, Talis, Seth, Cole, Jessa, Zack, Dylan, Ava, Emily, Ashley, Amber, Skylar, Michaela; great-grandchildren, Atticus, Harleigh and Jacob; sisters and brothers, Margaret (Marell) Pierrard, Florenceie (Dave) Forrest, Josie (Hardy) McKenzie, Darlene (Wayne) Williams, Barbara (Ray) Merritt, Judy (Robert) Steele, Joe (Heatherlee) Gardiner, Ronnie (Lisa) Gardiner, Andrew (Bev) Gardiner; brothers-in-law, Henry Mathis and Jim Read; sister-in-law, Leah Gardiner as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David Pentecost; sisters, Joanie Mathis, Christine Read; brothers, Alec and Ronald Gardiner and grandson, Dawson Pentecost.
Keeping with Effie’s wishes, a private family visitation and graveside service was held under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Online condolences may still be forwarded to her family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.
