Hazel Jane Ferguson, of Albert Bridge, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Center, surrounded by family. She was born May 9th, 1933 in Englishtown, NS. She is survived by her children, Johnnie Ferguson, Toronto, Mary (Bernie) Vallis, Albert Bridge, Kenneth (Anne) Ferguson, Fourchu, Dawn Jane Lahey, Albert Bridge; grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt), Halifax, Nathan (Shay), Saskatchewan, Garett (Caelin), Glace Bay, Jill (Art), Albert Bridge, Katelan (Ryan), Glace Bay; great grandchildren, Gage, Brody, Briar, Rowan, Wesley and Clark.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Ferguson; her son, Robert L. Ferguson; son-in-law, Cyril Lahey and her parents, Mary and Nathaniel Lamb. Hazel had many interests and hobbies over her life time. She enjoyed tole painting, ceramics, needle point and gardening. Hazel was passionate about politics and held various positions over the years including President of the PC Women’s Association of Nova Scotia. She was also a member of the United Church Presbytery where she served on many committees. Hazel and her husband, Donald operated a bed and breakfast (Sunlit Valley) out of their home which Hazel continued to operate for many years after Donald's passing. For the last 10 years Hazel has resided at Harbourstone in the Spanish Bay wing. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff for their compassionate care and kindness over the years. By Hazels request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place this evening, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 7-9 p.m., at MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone. Funeral Service will be celebrated Wednesday, April 12, at 2 p.m. in MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone with Rev. Emily Duggan officiating, with reception to follow in the church basement.
