It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of our mom, Anne Marie Phillips, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on April 18, 2017. This followed a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bedford in 1953, the daughter of the late Vivian MacKillop (Feetham) and George MacKillop, both of Sydney. She was raised on Keltic Drive in Sydney River and attended Riverview High School. Mom had a passion for gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and cared deeply about nature. She taught her family to respect and care for all animal life. She spent a great deal of time in Loch Lomond and Ingonish Beach, with her family. She also spent time in Ben Eoin, which she loved. She spent her later life caring for her mother Vivian. Mom is survived by her daughters, Dianne Phillips (Gary Geraci) of New Hampshire and Debbie Campbell (Sheldon) of New Waterford; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Brendan, Ella and Olivia; brothers, Alan MacKillop, Moncton and Bruce MacKillop, Sydney, and her nephew and nieces, Charlie (Laura), Donna and Kimberley (Martin). Anne was predeceased by her mother, Vivian MacKillop (Feetham) and father, George MacKillop of Sydney and by her sister, Carole Gabriel (MacKillop). The family would like to send a special thank you the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, particularly those from the palliative care unit, who provided exceptional care and compassion during her final days. The family also thanks Ms. Esther Lucas, who formed a special bond with our mom, providing a bright light at the end of a difficult journey. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2 p.m., at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

“Why God Made Friends: God made the world with a heart full of love, Then He looked down from Heaven above, and saw that we all need a helping hand, someone to share with, who’ll understand. He made special people to see us through the glad times and the sad times, too; a person on whom we can always depend, someone we can call a friend. God made friends so we’ll carry a part of His perfect love in all our hearts. -Jill Wolf”
