It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of George Stanislaus Campbell, announce the passing of our Father (and Poppy) on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
George was born on December 18, 1937 in Inverness to the late Malcolm and Sarah Belle Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Willhelmina Cox (Mientje); and sons, Glenn (Michelle), Dhiarmid (Elise); daughter, Shannon; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers; and three sisters.
He was raised in Inverness and upon graduating valedictorian he moved to Norfolk, Virginia and joined the US Navy. His years in the Navy included many ports of call around the world and he also participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his Navy years he moved back to Canada and started working in Truro at the youth centre where he met the love of his life, Willhelmina. They were married on Nov. 26, 1966 and lived in Truro until George accepted a position as a social worker with the Dept. of Community Services. He worked in the position for 33 years and was very active member of the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
George always had a love of Celtic history, music and genealogy. He passed this love on to his children. He had a property in West Lake Ainsle which was his gem and he spent many summers and weekends at the lake enjoying time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
