Sarah Jane “Gertrude” Erickson (née Davies) was born June 26th, 1914 on the family farm at Buttress, SK and passed away on Monday, January 2nd, 2017 at Armstrong, BC. She married Leroy Erickson of Mossbank, SK on October 24th, 1938 and they later moved to Moose Jaw, SK. Gertie worked as a salesclerk at Eaton’s Department Store in Moose Jaw, and was a good homemaker for her family. She enjoyed their cabin at Buffalo Pound Lake, coffee times with friends at the Co-op Cafeteria, and games of Scrabble or Cribbage. She moved to Armstrong, BC in 2015 to be closer to grandchildren when her daughter Lorraine passed away. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1984; son, Ronald in 2008; daughter, Lorraine in 2015; son-in-law, Andy in 2012; father, Edward Albert Davies (1956); mother Sarah Jane (Grayson) Davies in 1979; step-brothers, Mathew West and Mark West; step-sister, Mary Erickson; brothers: Archie, Harold, Harvey and Claude Davies; and two sisters, Uretta Mews, and Bell Bugg. Gertie is survived by her brother, Allan (Shirley) Davies of Sylvan Lake, AB; sister-in-law, Hilda Davies of Moose Jaw, SK; grandchildren: Susan Kurenoff, Darren Vargyas (Elvira), and Tina Vargyas (Bryce), all of British Columbia; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery. We will be gathering at Smitty’s restaurant in the Town & Country Mall for coffee or tea following the interment. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
