It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel “Danny” Patrice Poirier, age 73, loving husband, father and grandfather, on Tuesday, April 24, 2017 at the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax Infirmary Site. Born in Cheticamp on August 17, 1943, he was the son of the late Henry and Delphine (Larade) Poirier. Danny was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and a 3rd Degree member of Father William Kiely Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was a proud member of the Boilermakers Union, Local 73, and worked in construction for many years. For all those who knew Danny, our talented, “Jack of all Trades” father would do anything in his power to help, guide and support anyone who needed him. As a perfectionist, Dad was well known for his incredible work ethic. His crafty, French accent, with just the right “touch of swear”, made him a contagious, remarkable and extraordinary man! Dad’s life has touched so many people and we are so proud to have called him our father, husband and friend. Dad enjoyed each coffee, smoke and “detailed” conversation he had with anyone who graced his presence. Dad’s family was his greatest pride and the heart and soul of his existence. Each breath he took made each of us feel special and loved. He shared a very special love with his devoted wife of 49 years, who was always by his side. Danny is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia (Ongo) Poirier; his son, Derek Poirier, Sydney; two daughters, Lisa (Keith) McInnis, Georges River, Linda (Colin) MacKinnon, Sydney; and his seven grandchildren, Robyn & Lance Poirier, Glenn, David and Kelli McInnis, Jake & Drew MacKinnon; and many special nieces and nephews and great friends. Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Leo; his half-brothers, Willie, Charlie and Josie; and half-sisters, Annie, Marie, Stella and Liza.
Visitation for Danny will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will follow the burial in the church basement. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
“Danny, you will always be remembered forever in our hearts.
May you rest in peace, Daddy. xoxo”
