JULIE AGNES MACEACHERN

Born In: GLACE BAY
Born: July 10th, 1953

Passed on: April 27th, 2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mom and friend Julie Agnes MacEachern. Julie passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 27, 2017. Born in Glace Bay, July 10, 1953, she was raised and resided in Sydney while spending her childhood in Port Hood and Grand Mira. Julie loved to laugh, sing and share joy with others. She was a volunteer for many years with the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department ladies auxiliary, an avid ball player and a fierce lover of music and singing. She donated so much of her time to help others and raise money to worthy causes and she cooked a mean pot of spaghetti. She raised her kids, Shawn and Krista MacEachern of Sydney with her then husband, Bernie MacEachern of Grand Mira. She loved spending time with family, especially around a warm meal with lots of love, or having a dance, drink and a laugh at the legion. She was a cursillista and had a deep spirituality and love of God.
She is survived by her best friend and “Babe,” John Leo Bates of Sydney; her son, Shawn (Rachel) MacEachern; her daughter, Krista (Troy) MacEachern; her grandchildren, Erika, Brenda, Austin and Colton and great-granddaughters, Lexy and Maddison. Julie had an abundance of family. She has left behind many brothers and sisters, including: Betty Dodge, Ont., Phyllis (Wayne) MacDonald, Rita (Eddie) Seymour, Glace Bay, Margie (Ron) Mosburger, Hector (Donna) O’Brien, Mike (Brenda) O’Brien and Mary (Bob) Lamonte all living in Ontario, Richard Doiron, Cheticamp. She also leaves behind her brother, Danny (Ursula) Gillis, Guysborough County and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly. Julie had special memories and spent time in care of the MacLean Family from Port Hood. She also leaves behind an abundance of friends that are too many to name. Julie is predeceased by her parents, John James (Sadie) Gillis of Sydney and Lawrence (Leona) O’Brien of Glace bay; as well as her brothers, Josie, Frankie, Ernie and Johnny O’Brien.
Visitation will be held at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, Monday, May 1st from 12-2 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception and burial at Resurrection Cemetery to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Palliative Care Unit at CBRH and the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
