Mary Theresa MacLeod

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Mary Theresa MacLeod on Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney on December 20, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Abraham and Mary Jessie (MacDougall) Martell. She spent her life in Sydney, where she was known for her beautiful singing voice and her large, vibrant family.
She is survived by her children, Brian (Judy), Susan (Roger Strickland), Duncan (Michelle), Linda, Mary Theresa (Martin Ross), Barbara (Allen MacPherson), Hugh (Heather) and Bruce (the late Anne Gamble). Also surviving are siblings, Cecilia, Lorraine (the late Bobby Lothier), Maureen (Donnie MacKenzie), Margie (the late Claude MacDonald), Lawrence (Karen) and Duncan (Annette); 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, who will fondly remember Nana's sweet voice and loving smile.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Duncan; sons, Shawn and Hugh Victor; siblings, Wally (Caroline) and Sid Martell.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 9 from 4-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Saint Theresa's Church in Sydney.
