It is with sadness that the family of Herman Arthur Merkowsky announce his passing on May 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 27, 1929 in Humboldt, SK to Alexander & Regina Merkowsky. Herman was very athletic, playing hockey with the Prince Albert Junior Mintos along with golfing, curling and fastball. He enjoyed his summers at Waskesiu, fishing and golfing. He worked as Parts Manager at Northway Chev Olds until his retirement in 1994. Family was very important to him and he had a full and rich life. Herman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eveline; his son, Alan (Jennifer) Merkowsky and their children, Kaitlin and Cameron; his daughter, Lorene (Gordon) Stewart and their children, Braydon (Veronica), Lainie, Shelby, Kelsey and Charlie; his great-granddaughter, Ellie Brinn Stewart; and his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Merkowsky, Lois (Cyril) Thomas and Louise (Leonard) Thomas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander & Regina Merkowsky; his brothers, Joe (Cecile), John (Noreen), Tony (Gabe) and George (Kaye); his sisters, Anne (Jack Stinton) and Madeline (Wally Edge); his grandson, Nicholas; and his brothers-in-law, Cyril and Leonard Thomas. Herman’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at River Park Memorial Chapel, Father Matthew Nguyen officiating. Interment at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), 1705 McKercher Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 5N6, or to Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5H1. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
