Del passed away peacefully May 14th, 2017 at 8:06 a.m. in
Maple Ridge, BC. Born in Glace Bay, January 25, 1964 to James (Buster) and Thelma (Murphy) Gilmet, predeceased by brothers, Fred and George; survived by Calvin, Martin, Blaise and Linda.
He worked for Marg¹s taxi and called Mickey his good friend. He also missed his old fishing buddy, Ernie Lusier. He battled numerous health issues for many years, proving again and again to be the strongest and most stubborn man any of us have ever known. This was not only the way he lived, but the way he loved. A fiercely loyal defender of his boys, and tender protector of his girls, he built a unique and special bond with each of us. Some of those grieving his loss include his sons, Stephen and Danny; sons in-law, Peter, Jason, Cliff and Brian; his daughters, Maggie, Wendy, Mea and Leah; daughter-in-law, Nathalie; former wife, Sis; good friend, Laurie; as well as numerous grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and his remaining siblings.
He leaves a legacy of love and a clear motto we will live by: “Be clannish. Stick together. It’s us against the world.” To those who knew him and loved him, raise a glass in his honour. To those who knew him and didn’t, steer clear of the rest of us if you know what’s good for you.
