Queenie Smith

Passed on: January 23rd, 2017

The passing of Queenie Reta Smith on January 23,2017 left a void in many lives. There were her friends, those from the MJ Art Guild, MJ Camera Club, Birthday Buddies, Pottery Students, the Vanda Beauty Counsellor ladies, and of course, her many lifelong girlfriends. Those who are gone have been waiting for Queenie to fill the empty chair at the table for tea. The loss most felt by her passing is shared by Queenie's 4 daughters and family; Nola (Jim) Keay, Cathy (Ron) Smith-Clark, Cindy Lane (Dale) Mierau, and Dala (Jerry) Konihowski. All blessed her with grandchildren, and some in turn with great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Queenie's precious second daughter Betty passed away when she was three and her husband of over 30 years, Wally, in 1985. Queenie's love of nature, music, photography, painting, pottery and creative pursuits made her the wonderful person that she was. Many potters learned from Queenie, all benefitting from her patient counsel and joy in their finish project. Her own work was displayed far and wide, and rests today in many a Moose Jaw home. Her outlook on life, her joy of living it, and her words of wisdom will continue on for generations. As we celebrate 100 years of a life well-lived, we will remember the little things. Things she told us, 'Keep busy, don't be idle', ' fix it - don't throw it out', 'do what you have to do, to get to do what you want to do', and of course, 'always wear shoes when mowing the lawn'. That was our mom, Queenie - a woman as unique as her name. We will be honouring Queenie on Saturday May 27, 2017 at Crescent Park Event Centre, 262 Athabasca Street East in Moose Jaw at 2:00pm. There will be tears, laughter and stories - please join us. In living memory of Queenie, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. If you wish to, memorial donations can be made to the Moose Jaw Art Guild. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
