Born: September 19th, 1936

Passed on: May 21st, 2017

With such sadness we announce the passing of our dear Wife, Mother, Nan, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Bev Herridge, on May 21, 2017 at Northside General Hospital with her family by her side.
Born September 19, 1936 in Sydney, the daughter of the late Edger and Flora (Varner) Hillman.
Mom was a gentle soul with a kind word for everyone she met. Her family was everything to her. As sure as you heard an ambulance siren we could count on a phone call to check to see where everyone was. On your worst of days she could make you feel good, everyone was beautiful and everything was delicious. Those that knew her best knew how much she loved a good laugh, no joke was too dry for mom.
Mom loved her sports; she played baseball, was part of the women’s dart league and was a pretty competitive bowler. She loved her Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs, never missing a game. She knew every player that ever played and could recite their stats, you could never trick mom with sports trivia.
Stopping in at Mom’s you would often catch her and Pop (George) in a game of Crib or Tarbish. Although she loved to skunk him, it was usually her being skunked, either way, she would break out in laughter.
We are sure going to miss her and her world famous chocolate cake and boiled icing. We could always count on her to whip us up one!
Mom is survived by her loving husband, George, who was at her side as her constant support; her children, Doug (Tricia), Lynn (Lloyd) and Bruce (Lisa); grandchildren, Jessica (Mark), Coady (Dana), Ashley (Brandon), Katelyn (Chris), Brian Adam (Laura), Cory (Shauna), Tyler (Melissa) and Shelby; great grandchildren, Violet, Kody, Jordan, Ryan, Jackson and Sebastian. She will be sadly missed by her twin sister, Dawn Tubrett; sister, Shirley Thurber; brothers, Arleigh (Elsie) and Gary ‘Sonny’ Hillman; brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Kaye), Clayton, Everett (Vange) and Murdock (Barb) Herridge; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hillman; brother-in-law, Mike Marmulak; her best friend, Jean Bungay and special family friends, Brian Drake and Debbie Leyte.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by the father of her children, Lloyd Leyte; her father and mother-in-law, George and Rebecca Herridge; her sisters, Judy Marmulak, Eileen Mac Charles (Babe) and Pearl Ross (Buddy); brothers, Edgar, Ronald (Beaver) and Dougie Hillman; brothers-in-law, Bobby Tubrett and Rusty Thurber, and sisters-in-law, Joan Hillman, Dorothy Rose and Josephine Herridge.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for Beverly will be Wednesday May 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Wesley Church, Commercial St., North Sydney, NS with Reverend Steven Mills officiating.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. William Mac Donald and all of the wonderful Doctors and Nurses at the Cape Breton Cancer Center who cared for mom. To Palliative Care, the Northside General Hospital Foundation, EHS and the amazing staff of 4West Northside General thank you.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation- Wig Bank Program, The Cape Breton Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
