Wayne Daniel MacKenzie

It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne MacKenzie announces his unexpected passing on Friday, May 19, 2017, at his home in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. He was the eldest son of Rev. Jack and Charlene (Pike) MacKenzie. Wayne is survived by his parents; his brother, Stuart (Saundra); and their children, Grant, Morgan, Hannah, and Dylan; and a great-nephew, Mavi. He also leaves to mourn his beloved Salvation Army Church family in Summerside and a great host of friends throughout the Maritimes. Wayne was predeceased by his brother, David; and his sister, Elaine. Wayne had a long career as an orderly beginning at the East Saint John Division, then the Saint John General and finally the Saint John Regional. He was well known and well loved by staff and patients alike. His hearty laughter, his unconditional acceptance, and his willingness to serve brightened many lives. Upon retiring, Wayne lived in Summerside, P.E.I., where Wayne became enrolled as a soldier of the Salvation Army. He faithfully served there as a member of the Worship team and regularly played his keyboard, sang, and shared at Nursing Homes in that area. He could also be found passing out bread and working at the soup kitchen on a regular basis. Often he was stationed by a Salvation Army Kettle at Christmas time. In addition, Wayne was very attentive to anyone who needed assistance in getting to appointments or doing errands. He truly had a heart to serve which he did to his final day here on earth. As per Wayne's wishes, there will be a visitation at the Salvation Army Church in Summerside, P.E.I., on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment will in the Peoples Cemetery, Summerside. In addition, there will be a visitation on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Saint John at First Wesleyan Church, Boars Head Road followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. after which there will be a reception. Memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army Food Bank. Arrangements are under the care of Moase Funeral Home, Summerside PE. www.moase.ca
