It is with great sadness that the family of Catherine Marie ‘Kissie’ MacNeil announce her passing on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009. She died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (MacNeil) Parago.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, and a former member of Club 55. In recent months she was a resident of New Waterford Heights Nursing Home.
‘Kissie’ is survived by daughters, Anne (Normand) Trudeau, Ottawa, Joan (David) Wall, New Glasgow; son-in-law, Bernie MacLeod (her primary caregiver for the past number of years). She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Emily MacLeod, Logan Wall, Stefan Trudeau and Jonathan Trudeau and by her great-grandchildren, Madison, Liam, Jenna and Rhys Trudeau. She is survived by one brother, Leo ‘Deacon’ (Flo) Parago; sisters, Mae Devoe, Gert MacIntyre; sister-in-law, Casey Parago; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended family which includes Bernie Sr. and Jane Macleod and their children, Cyril, Carmie, Judy, Sandy and Carl.
Besides her husband Malcolm Bernard ‘Bernie’, she was also predeceased by daughters, Margie MacLeod and Mary Elizabeth (in infancy), brothers, Bernie, Donald, sisters, Helen Hudson, Betty Baker and Florence O’Toole.
Visitation for the late Catherine Marie ‘Kissie’ MacNeil will be held Monday, Feb. 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Will MacPherson officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice.
