Blanche Curtis Creelman

Blanche Curtis Creelman, Friday, May 13, 1921 to Sunday, April 8, 2007. Born in Princeport, a daughter of Scott and Susan (Marshall) Curtis, Blanche grew up on the family farm, the 12th of 13 children. She was active in 4-H and sports and never missed a good dance. She graduated from Princeport School and worked in Ryan's, Snook's and Munroe's Jewellery stores in Truro. Married, Sept. 8, 1948 to Gordon Fraser Creelman of South Branch, they had three children: Lucy (Frank) LeBlanc, Darrell (Myra Crouse), and Susan Creelman; and three grandchildren, Scott LeBlanc, Katie Creelman and Roddy Creelman. She raised her family on the farm with Gordon in South Branch and then in Stewiacke. She had many accomplishments: played championship softball with the Truro Printing Slugs; charter member and the first worthy matron OES, Elm Chapter #48 and Stewiacke Chapter #60; first female director of Shubenacadie Co-op; active in rural development with the establishment of Colchester Cottage Craft; active in the lowbush blueberry industry as a grower, as the first female member of the board of directors of the Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia and as an historian; founding member of NS Morgan Horse Club; life member and former director of Canadian Morgan Horse Association; active in her church in UCW and as a member of session. Blanche was a member of the Truro Printing Slugs who were inducted into the Truro Sport Heritage Hall of Fame and the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gordon, her brothers and sisters Strathie, Harvey, Hollis, Edgar, Alberta, Lucy, Douglas, Merle, Florence, Stanley, Roger and Evelyn. Blanche is survived by her children and grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Grace Bethel and Nathalie Creelman, many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's United Church, Stewiacke with Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. Interment at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Andrew's United Church Building Fund, Stewiacke or the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation Capital Campaign.
