C. David Smith, 83, North River, passed away Aug. 15, 2008. David was employed for many years as regional properties officer for DND Atlantic Canada and Bermuda, and as property manager for the city of Halifax. He was past president of the Armdale-Halifax Kiwanis; a Master Mason, Truro Lodge No. 43; and a director and member of the Colchester Stroke Club. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Pearl (Keeler) and Charles Smith and was predeceased by brother Melville. He is survived by daughters Patricia (Jack) Connolly of Glen Margaret, Dr. Michael Smith of Tantallon, Kellie (Stephen) Merrimen of Glen Margaret, and son Sean (Nancy) Smith of Edmonton, grandson Rian Smith (Keri-Lyn) and granddaughters Robin Smith-Armstrong (Scott), Julia (Jeff), Rachelle, and Colleen Freake; Hannah, Jamie and Alayne Merrimen. Dave is also survived by his dear friend Helen Deuville. An avid traveller, Dave drove from the back roads of Colchester County to the far reaches of North America. At the time of his death, Dave was planning yet another driving adventure to Florida. Special thanks to the staff at Colchester Regional Hospital ICU and to his loyal friends, Marie, Shelia, Charles and Relic. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. A memorial service will be held Aug. 20, 2008, 7 p.m. at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
