Beverly Marie (Williams) MacDonald, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Dec. 29th, 2007. Born in Glace Bay on January 17,1920, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Margaret (MacEachern) Williams. After attending High School in Glace Bay she went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1944. Mom worked in hospitals in Glace Bay and New Waterford specializing in paediatrics. In 1945, Mom married our father Collie, who was her anchor and strength for 53 years. When he passed away ten years ago, a huge part of Mom went with him. In 1969, our parents moved to New Glasgow where Mom became very involved in Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church as choir member, lector, extraordinary minister and religious education teacher. She volunteered her time to many causes in her community as well as keeping a close eye on the politics of the day, whether local, national or global. Mom enjoyed music, drama and especially the lifelong pursuit of education. She instilled these interests in her children and was very proud of the fact that all obtained university degrees. Above all, her most cherished role was as “Mother” and “Gramma” leaving us all with many precious memories. Surviving are children: Allan J. (Cindy), Montague, P.E.I., Robert (Mary), Hantsport, N.S., David, St. John’s, Nfld. Beverly MacDonald, Bedford, Ann (Ian) MacKnight, Bedford; special daughter, Sarah Jane MacIsaac Mahon, New Waterford. Mom was a devoted “Gramma” to grandchildren: Rachael, Colin, Maria, Angus, Heather, Devon and Dylana. She is also survived by sisters, Gwen Leslie, Kitchener, Ont., Evelyn MacDonald, Halifax, N.S.; brothers, Dan (Winnie) Williams, Brampton, Ont., Frank (Fran) Williams, San Lorenzo, Calif. She was predeceased by our Dad, Colin (Collie) MacDonald; brothers, James, Sidney, John; and sister, Effie Briggs. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation at Mom’s request. A mass to honour our mother will be held on Sat., Jan. 5th, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Stellarton, Father Bill Rankin officiating. Reception to follow in Parish Hall. Interment will be in the spring when Mom will be together with Dad at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Morien, Cape Breton. Donations in Mom’s Memory would be kindly accepted for the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
