Chesley John "Ted" Fraser

EUREKA - Chesley John "Ted" Fraser, 94, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Eureka, passed away February 1, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary (MacKinnon) Fraser. Ted was a lifelong resident of Eureka and a guest at Valley View Villa for the past five years. After he finished school, Ted worked in D.M. Grant's General Store and the Eureka Post Office. He then went to Noranda, where he worked in the Gold Mines, returning to Eureka where he began working with the C.N.R. as a brakeman, retiring after 38 years as Stellarton Yard Foreman. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church where he was a former warden and usher for many years. Ted was a member of the K.O.C. Council 1667. He loved boxing and had a speed bag in the basement and garage that he used regularly into his late eighties. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughter, Neila (Craig) McCarron, Stellarton; sons, Clarence (Diana) Fraser, MacLellan's Brook; Hugh Fraser, St. Foy, Quebec; grandchildren: Scott (Mary) McCarron, Buford, Georgia; Glenn (Lynn) Fraser, Stellarton, Brad Fraser, Eureka; Stephanie Fraser (Fred Hughes), Antigonish; Andrew Fraser (Genevieve), Toronto; Carolyn Fraser, Montreal; great-grandchildren: Grant Chesley, Marlee, Luke and Maria Fraser, Stellarton; Cole, Cade and Kye McCarron, Buford, Georgia; Dillan Fraser, Toronto; also longtime neighbour and dear friend, Della Cameron, Haven Brook Manor. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary "Chippy" Gillis; brothers: Clarence "Plug", Henry, John W.; sister, Isabel Gillespie; and a brother, Bernard in infancy. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
