NEW GLASGOW - Mary Frances "Winnie" Austin (Avery), beloved wife of Jack Austin, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2007, at the age of 79 years in the Glen Haven Manor. Winnie was born in New Glasgow on February 7, 1927, where she spent her entire life. She was a daughter of the late Norman and Christina (Richards) Avery. Winnie was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. She also spent many happy years as a floral designer at Jackson's and later McKean's floral shops. Winnie is survived by her husband Jack; four sons: Brent (Marie), Calgary; Glen (Susan), Edmonton; Gary, Halifax; Michael (Debbie), New Glasgow; eight grandchildren: David, Mark, Ryan, Luke, Trevor, Kent, Brian and Michele; several great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Edna), Hamilton, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers: Ronald, Ernest, James and David and sisters, Irene Brooks and Dorothy Foley. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. A private family committal service will take place in Lorne Street Cemetery. If desired memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Glen Haven Manor for their compassionate care.
