Bill, Harry Freeman - 68, of Billtown, Kings County, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 4, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Donald and M. Rosina (Cousins) Bill. Harry was a very humble person who always set the right example and was a hero and mentor to many. He graduated from Kings County Academy, where he excelled at athletics, including hockey and track and field, which he later coached. He was instrumental in starting the minor football program in Kentville. He obtained his Education Degree from Acadia University and returned to K.C.A. where he became a teacher. He later became Principal of Cambridge Elementary School, and then Curriculum Supervisor for the Kings County Amalgamated School Board from where he retired with the position of Assistant Superintendent of Schools. In his earlier years, he was a Queen Scout. He wrote "The Enduring Past", a history of the Billtown Baptist Church in which he was an active member, serving on many committees and boards. He also wrote a history entitled "The Bills of Billtown". He was a past-president of the Kentville Kinsman Club and enjoyed travelling. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and instilled an appreciation for nature and the outdoors in his own family. He arranged for his wife and sister-in-law to visit the wartime graves of uncles in Germany. Harry also enjoyed spending time with family at their cottage at Sherbrooke Lake. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Patricia "Pat" Williams; two daughters, Susan (John) Walsh, Burnt Point, Prince Edward Island; Cathy (Ken) Burton, Hammonds Plains; a son, Donald (Suzanne), Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland; two brothers, Franklin (Helen), Port Hope, Ontario; Carroll (Joan), St. John's, Newfoundland; special sister-in-law, Pamela "Pam" (John) Loughead, Cambridge Woods; nine grandchildren, Patrick, Rebecca, Julia, Ian, Rachael, Emily, Nicholas, Jessica and Lauren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Bill. Visitation was held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Billtown Baptist Church, Reverend Gerald Zinck officiating. Burial took place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Billtown Baptist Church, the Valley Regional Hospital or the charity of your choice.
